MAIN NAVIGATION

1. CLEAN UP

The curse has broken, finally banishing the oppressive air around the city and the many sightless eyes of the accursed haniwa. Life will have to return to normal now but first there is lingering clean-up that must be attended to:

SHUTEN CLAN

The Shuten Clan is out in force to rebuild damaged storefronts. Eager oni appear in their festival happi, singing oni working tunes. You can pick up the words easily enough, join in and help out. The mood starts bright, but after a number of unlucky accidents there is less singing and more grumbling. The cursed energy left behind has made all of you much more prone to workplace accidents but the storefronts need to be scrubbed, broken glass needs sweeping, new furniture needs construction. There are any number of thumbs smashed by hammers, hands cut on saws, heads hit with falling debris or that board of wood you didn’t see someone carrying towards you. It’s a cursed day to be out on the job.

Rewards will come in the form of free drinks for a week from specific bars and a generous amount of chips for the casinos. If you aren’t of age to drink or gamble? Well… they’ll look the other way this time. Have fun.

It should be noted that the uniform -- a happi, a hachimaki, and fundoshi -- is required. The Shuten Clan is very traditional, after all.

TAMAMO CLAN

The bathhouses in Tamamo clan territory remain full of bloodied water. They need to be drained and scrubbed to make them new again. However, reaching the drains is a tricky business. You can’t simply reach in to pull out the plug, you will have to wade into the water to twist it free. Easy enough, right?

Unfortunately, residual curse energy has made this a very dangerous task. Phantasmal hands will reach out and try to drag you under as you get too close to the drain. The phantasms can be distracted, so you’ll need some teamwork to succeed. Your reward is a significant amount of free bath coupons. Some of the advertised baths even have “special” properties. Take the chance to relax, you probably need it.

Those that are rejuvenated in the newly purified baths will find themselves with seemingly limitless vigor. That vigor may sometimes manifest in the form of desperately needing to fuck the first thing willing to do so. Which might turn out somewhat embarrassing...

SUTOKU CLAN

The residual cursed energy in the Sutoku Alliance territory has congregated in their many arcades. The prizes in the UFO catcher machines seem off and they keep shifting around. If you happen to win a prize, the prize slot snaps shut on your hand with amazing force: the machine out for blood. To clear the curse, the prizes need to be removed from the machines and purified with the help of a local shrine maiden. Unfortunately, the key ring to open the machines has been stolen by some of the unruly prizes. You will need to use your UFO catcher skills to fish it back out.

Try not to lose any fingers.

Other machines are shooting tokens out of their coin slots at astonishingly painful speeds. A strange phenomenon, as even the machines that take swipe cards are doing it. Where are those tokens even coming from? You will have to get the machines open and give them a deep cleaning to get all the residual blood off the coins and mechanisms. You need the same keys that are stuck inside the UFO catcher…. Better hope you can fish out the one you need.

For your troubles, you will be given unlimited free plays for a month. Perfect for winning a totally-not-cursed prize for your sweetie.

ENMA DEPARTMENT

It’s the Department of the Enma’s turn to go begging for good will. They are considered to be mostly responsible for the way the cursed haniwa were handled in the first place. Enma souls should get out on the streets and see what the people need: Food, clean water, housing repairs and maintenance, as well as exorcisms. They’re all high on people’s priority lists and most people want it done pronto. Try not to get snappy with the angry people, the department’s reputation is on the line.

The Enma is slated to give a press conference at some point. It's up to the rest of the Department to assure that there will be reception to his words. They are likely to be of grave importance to the rest of the city.

A hard day’s work is its own reward, but you’ll also get a day pass to a theme park on the edge of the city – in the name of community outreach, of course.

2. GHOST SHARKS

The very streets themselves are treacherous with residual curses. The isonades may have been intimidated out of town for the moment but the anger of their ancestors lingers in the bloody puddles that still glisten in the streets. Come too close to these puddles and spectral sharks will lunge from beneath the surface: Blood for blood! Lives for lives!

While spectral in nature, the teeth on these sharks can still do real harm to anyone they lash out at. They don’t seem to take damage in kind, but will pop and disperse for a moment when struck. The ghostly sharks are being populated by a magic totem that has been partially buried in the dirt of a local park. Destroy it and the sharks will disappear.

Unfortunately, a pack of snotty local children have taken a shine to this magic totem. They are not keen to let you take it from them, nor break it. It’s theirs. It’s special. If you’re feeling brutish or cruel, you can fight the children or deceive them, but your boss would probably suggest you try to bargain with them for appearance’s sake. They’re entirely unreasonable though, as children can be, and it will be quite a chore to get them to agree to your terms.

3. CURSED CORNERS

There are certain corners and alleyways which are simply predisposed to gather cursed energy. These areas are still haunted enough to affect the reality around you. You may experience hallucinations or visions of lost loved ones, past regrets, personal failings. These visions are played out in the area for all to see. You will remain frozen in place until your moment is done, or someone brave comes to pull you out.

Now that the worst of it is over, some of the more morbid and voyeuristic members of the public may be lurking around these haunted areas, waiting to see what horrors will be unveiled. They have out their phones and their cameras to record the show.

The cruelest of the spectators provide commentary to their social media followings as they observe. Anything for that monetization!

The biggest of the streams is a kerakera onna who goes by her channel name: Lipsticki. She leans in over the rooftops to cackle loudly at people’s misfortunes and give petty, scathing commentary about their misdeeds and failings.

4. THE ENMA SPEAKS (PLOT RELEVANT)

Outside the hospital where the Enma was being treated, there is a huge press gathering. The judge arbiter has been deemed fit enough to release. Hungry for word, journalists from every publication swarm the area. Most press-outlets in the city are controlled by the Sutoku Alliance, who have a vested interested in interrogating the Enma.

A number of other onlookers have tacked on as well, including Lost Souls both old and new. Lost Souls may even find themselves ordered to attend the statement by their faction.

It is assumed that the Enma must have something of grave importance to say, after all.

The Enma approaches the podium. He is dressed in his usual suit, his crown, and his stern expression; it puts a hush over the crowd through its tremendous pressure alone. No questions have been asked, yet, but a statement has been prepared. He clears his throat:

"The cause of the curse, the enemy of Jigokucho, is... Haniyasu. The Department's focus will be shifting to determining our next action in regards to this entity. That is all."

Just like, the Enma's secretary and a retinue of armored shinigami move to flank the Enma and guide them to a waiting limo down the steps. The press yells their questions over one another, but are pushed back. The Enma doesn't even seem to perceive them, simply focusing on getting into the car.

Unfortunately, if you're a representative for one of the factions -- especially the Department of the Enma -- that makes you fair game to hound for questioning too. Do you stand your ground or try to run away?

There's a heavy sigh in the air, as Eiichi appears behind Leviathan, grabbing them by the shoulder and tugging them along as if it was time to go. "Oi. Stop embarrassing yourself over someone like her."

His face was-- well, dry, and extremely unimpressed. He doesn't even seem to pay the kerakera any mind, long since fed up with all her annoying noise and prattling. "Someone like that woman doesn't have enough in her head to even get anything out of it if they tried. You shouldn't waste your energy."
fibrillate: (did you look like me)

[personal profile] fibrillate 2022-06-25 04:38 pm (UTC)(link)
They had absolutely not been expecting to be physically pulled away, even if it's just by their shoulder, and the person pulling them might be just a little surprised to get a very mild electric shock from touching them. It's certainly not strong enough to cause damage, but it would be more noticeable than static electricity for a standard person, at least.

And there's still room for Leviathan to be surprised here, not by the situation but by the apparent boredom in this person's voice. "So this is considered normal around here?" they ask, at least taking the hint and trying to get a little distance from the cursed corner itself. "Giant women reach into your mind and put your memories on display for the entire internet?"
frogmarched: (pic#15770778)

[personal profile] frogmarched 2022-06-26 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
There's a shock-- and while it doesn't quite hurt, Eiichi still withdraws his hand for a minute, scoffing at... himself, probably. But regardless, his grip returns as they move; at the least, in case the kerakera-onna wants to start something again.

"Hm...?" Was that sort of thing normal here? He had no idea. "Who knows...? But I doubt that woman had anything to do with it." Kerakera didn't usually have some ability to dive into memories, at least not from tall the stories he'd ever heard. "She's probably just exploiting your problems so she can be the center of attention."

He has no idea what clout and the internet are okay.
fibrillate: (we can't can't recall the feelings)

[personal profile] fibrillate 2022-06-26 07:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well," they start, "Yeah. That is kind of how it works. People love... taking your problems and making themselves the stars of it. And I guess that's true here, too."

They contemplate some of the facts they've gotten about this world as they've very slowly gotten into the swing of things, metaphorically. "If this is really Hell, it would really only be worse, wouldn't it? Bigger and harder to avoid. Like every true crime enthusiast and online gawker in the world is focusing a spotlight on everything you do, all the time, forever."
frogmarched: (pic#15678469)

[personal profile] frogmarched 2022-06-28 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
Okay listen Levi he has no idea what you're talking about.

Well, not entirely. He supposed uncovering other peoples' problems was an easy claim to fame; it's what those boys from Jinbochou had been trying to do. But also he had no idea what 'online' meant, or what a 'true crime enthusiast' was, though he could guess a little at the context.

"'True crime'...?" As opposed to fake crime, apparently. He sighs, and shakes his head. "I suppose if you're scared of being scrutinized, it would be a fitting Hell... but somehow it still feels pretty lenient for Hell. At least it's not one of the deeper ones..."
fibrillate: (it's in the way all the time)

[personal profile] fibrillate 2022-06-29 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
"True crime. Unsolved murder mysteries that people turn into money-making opportunities." They're trying not to sound bitter about that for more than one reason; they continue. "Not that there's many mysteries to be had. If someone dies under mysterious circumstances, it was either the Zaibatsu, or someone trying to pin it on a meta-human."

Maybe they shouldn't be getting so worked up about it. It's bad for their heart. "As though we don't have enough things to worry about just trying to live our lives." Maybe, they think more insistently, they shouldn't be getting so worked up about it, because it is bad for their heart.

"What kind of Hell goes deeper than this, anyway?" they ask, finally listening to their internal monologue like they should've done earlier.
frogmarched: (pic#15678482)

[personal profile] frogmarched 2022-06-29 08:16 am (UTC)(link)
"How disgusting..." Well, Levi doesn't have to worry about her tone, because Eiichi's own (while softer) had a decent amount of revulsion in it. He supposed that was sort of like what the Jinbochou boys were doing... though it's not like they did it for the money. But he's also equally unexcited to be struck in some kind of 'true crime' drama.

"Where I'm from, it's usually the zaibatsu, or the army." But his wicked smile finally returns to his face, as he says it. "People with money who have nothing better to worry about. Even the academic elite does it sometimes." Sorry Levi he's not good for your heart either.

"Ah... you must be the kind of person that only believes in one Hell, huh." Y'know, christians That's not even answering the question Eiichi.
fibrillate: (Default)

[personal profile] fibrillate 2022-06-29 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'm the kind of person who thought they knew what Hell looked like already," they answer, equally not giving a clear response. "A world where the people with money and the people with power are one and the same, and everything is done to make those people more and more money, and they never consider the cost of human life."

The bitterness comes out in full force, as though that's a surprise. They want to spit; they clench their fist instead. "And meta-human life is worthless." They can really feel their heart rate climbing, and just as a precautionary measure, they grab a nearby metal pole without looking at what signs might be on it and send a line of blue sparks down to the ground through it. It doesn't feel like it's done as much as it normally would, but it's better than letting it all build.

"Sorry. It's just something that gets to me and always has. That's what Hell has looked like for me."
frogmarched: (pic#15770778)

[personal profile] frogmarched 2022-06-30 10:09 am (UTC)(link)
"Hm...?" Ah. Well that wasn't the kind of hell he had been talking about. The ones he'd been taught about were tortuous places to work off bad karma, not simply the realities one would have to live with. In some ways he'd always wondered if the eight hells were a better place, just because there was a guaranteed light at the end of the tunnel.

"How overdramatic..." He breathes it out softly, but it's hard to tell if his tone is bored or exasperated. But despite the softness, when Leviathan reached out for the metal pole, Eiichi stepped after them; grabbing them by the collar of their shirt only so he could get a look at their eyes closer, for any signs of dizziness or vertigo. But it didn't seem like it was anything too bad, other than whatever the hell else was wrong with their eye.

"I don't care about whatever a 'meta-human' is..." Well, they were human, probably, and somehow exceptional or superhuman, but it didn't really matter either way. At least, if they haven't batted him away for being a weirdo, he lets go of them now. "That sort of thing is just normal in a society, isn't it? People that are too poor, or too young, see things too differently--" he thinks about Tamamori's desperate fear of being committed to an institution, and the side of his mouth twitches just for a moment "--even people that only threaten the status quo... They all just get swept up with the rest of the garbage. It's not exactly Hell if it's the norm, is it? Then it's just life." He didn't sound very happy about his own assessment, but he didn't sound happy about anything to be fair. "At least in Hell you can work off your sins."
fibrillate: (it's in the way all the time)

[personal profile] fibrillate 2022-07-02 01:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Getting grabbed comes as a surprise; they don't immediately parse it as, like, wanting to check on them. They're used to people being a little rougher with them if they're suddenly getting in close, and it spikes their heart but only for a moment. They don't pull away; most of the time they land on freeze, since most of the time it's the safest option.

It's only when he lets go that they seem confident enough to say something back. Because he's right. That's just what happens to anybody who threatens what's normal, but that's what they're fighting against. Every day. "Why should it be normal?" they ask, like that was the point of the whole damn thing. "Why should people like me have to be the ones who—who become the fall guys for everything that society does wrong? Why should we be the ones who feel every last bit of pain while the people with money and power get to live their lives without thinking of a single other person except for themselves?"
frogmarched: (pic#15678479)

[personal profile] frogmarched 2022-07-03 05:47 am (UTC)(link)
At least Eiichi didn't seem overly concerned-- or eager-- with doing anything more than that. They didn't seem to have a concussions or anything worse, so it was possible it was just low blood pressure.

"Why...?" What a strange question to ask. He tucks one of his hands into his pocket, tilting his head almost curiously, even though his expression was looking like he was more and more bored. "Who knows? Probably because people like you never end up with money and power." Well Levi had the money but He knew nothing about this person other than their drive, but they were passionate enough to keep an audience, he was sure.

"Are you gonna do something about it or something...?" They were kind of.... in Hell, and everything, though it's not like a place this big wouldn't have a social hierarchy.

"Maybe I will," they say, responding to the apparent boredom only by getting more passionate, by standing their ground and looking ahead with a clear mind. "Maybe I'll be the reason that the Lost Souls come together and overthrow Hell." That's what gets them far too worked up, though—they recognize they've said something that they shouldn't have, but it's hard to stop. They start pacing back and forth in a small circle.

"We don't need... we don't need money to make this happen. We have enough power within us already. We outnumber the Enma and Captain Shiki and everyone in the whole organization, and if we decide that justice—true justice deserves a chance to prevail then all we have to do is take it!"

They're breathing harder, and their pupils are dilating, and they recognize that this is leading to something bad. It doesn't matter how uninterested this person is in what they're saying; Leviathan has a fire building inside them, and if they don't do something to put it out then it's going to find a way out of them. They slam their palm down on the metallic door of a closed business this time, louder and with more force. With some effort, actual visible lightning explodes from their palm and spiderscatters along the steel.

They stand there for a moment in silence, letting their heartbeat normalize.

[personal profile] frogmarched 2022-07-04 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
Eiichi watches them as they pace back and forth with a disaffected curiosity. Well, they didn't get mad at him for not being enthusiastic, which was surprising, and they certainly seemed to be all in. That had remained to be seem, but like he thought, passion had to come from somewhere, and it didn't seem put on like all of his own feelings. But overthrowing Hell? Eiichi didn't know just how bad it was here, but it seemed exhaustively naive.

"--Mm?!" He could say a lot about the nonsense of 'true justice,' but instead, Levi seemed to get aggravated again, worse than just a potential bout of dizziness. High blood pressure? Low blood pressure? Lung problems? Heart problems? That's what incites him more than anything, and in blatant disregard of all the... electricity erupting, he approaches them again, hurriedly slipping one of the gloves he'd retrieved from his pocket over one hand.

"What the hell's wrong with you...!?" He seemed-- maybe a little angry? But it's more like when you tell your dentist that you haven't been flossing. And much ruder. But he picks up their opposite arm (again, without asking, which was also rude), and presses two fingers against Leviathan's wrist with his gloved hand. It was... much more pronounced, than just someone giving a passionate speech.

"You're getting yourself this worked up over a conversation?" He sneers, but it's just more of that scolding tone. "If your heart's struggling that much... You can't overthrow anyone if you're gonna give yourself a heart attack, y'know."
fibrillate: (before you came what was your name)

[personal profile] fibrillate 2022-07-04 02:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Of everything that had happened so far, this seems to be the thing that actually makes worry flash across Leviathan's face. They can tell that he knows what he's looking for, somehow—which is the main reason they don't pull or jerk away this time, since that fight-flight-freeze needle is swinging a little closer to flight now.

"I don't know," they admit, because the alternative is pretending that nothing's wrong with them. They hadn't wanted to come out and say this quite so clearly, but they are in Hell, and Hell rarely lets anyone keep their secrets for long, probably. "I don't know, it should be going down by now. Normally that's all it takes, but it just isn't going down." This is bad. This is a cascade event waiting to happen. They rest their head on the metal that's still cooling off and don't mind the warmth on their forehead, since that's only temporary, at least.

"Are you a doctor?" they ask in between long, deep breaths that they need to work. Getting all worked up like this was a mistake. Of course it was. Everything that's not sitting around doing normal things like normal people is a mistake and their body will stop at nothing to remind them.

"I would be, if this place didn't take me away from my coursework." He says it with a bit of pettiness, but despite Eiichi's snippyness, he at least knows that that's not exactly important at the moment. He's already let go of their wrist, gripping their forearm again... though it's to help keep them stable if they ended up being even more dizzy, too.

"Sit down, if you can." He's sure not gonna sit on the dirty pavement, but like, they can if they want. "Just try and stay calm and keep taking deep breaths. It seems like you should be used to this sort of thing." He sighs, and it's increasingly unclear if his bedside manner is clear, or just bad. "What you did to cause that spark show... That's probably related to why your hearts more stressed this time."

The trip to Hell may also be part of that but that's not really something they can solve right now, okay.
fibrillate: (we can't can't recall the feelings)

[personal profile] fibrillate 2022-07-09 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
They don't mind sitting on the dirty ground; they've been on dirtier, and it's better than trying to stand right now anyway. They shake their head once he stops speaking, and they try to swallow but their mouth is so dry.

"I have a mutation in my heart," they start slowly, trying to make sure each word is clear and easy enough to understand. "You have it backwards. If I get too stressed, my heart beats faster, and it makes more electricity. Inside of me." They reach into a pocket and their hand comes up dry, and their stomach sinks. "Damn it," they say under their breath, words that don't feel comfortable coming out of their mouth and yet here they are anyway.

"Do you know what a beta-blocker is?" they ask, their ruined eye focusing on the med student who they are hoping covered cardiovascular health already.
frogmarched: (pic#15799096)

[personal profile] frogmarched 2022-07-11 08:04 am (UTC)(link)
A heart beating faster making more electricity...? There were studies about using electricity to correct fibrillation in the heart, so the presence of electrical impulses was certainly clear... but he'd sure as hell never heard of the heart creating that much to matter.

"If a normal person generated electricity like that, they'd be dead." He grimaces. He guessed that was what they must have meant by 'meta' human.

Unfortunately, while Eiichi's classes had certainly covered plenty about cardiovascular health... That's also a bit ahead of his time. "'Beta-blocker'? No, I haven't. But if it's something you need to help your heart--" Something that they didn't seem to have on them, given their reaction?-- "we can try asking at a hospital. Even if I knew what they were, it's not like I'm a walking pharmacy."

They sigh, just taking the chance to listen. Come on, Levi, calm down. Be better than this. Just get a handle on things and you can get it out of you later. With some slight acknowledgement, they recognize oh, right, he wouldn't have any on him; he gives off the impression of the wrong kind of jerk to be a drug dealer. Regardless of what the drugs actually are.

"Can you show me to one? I think once I have a minute here I can actually admit myself, but..." Wait. Oh, that's unfortunate. "I definitely don't have insurance. How big of a problem is that going to be?"
frogmarched: (pic#15799077)

[personal profile] frogmarched 2022-07-12 11:18 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, if you asked him for something like barbitals, he could've provided... if he had his bag. Though he distinctly remembers throwing all the contents on the floor before ending up here. So, maybe he really is a pretty unreliable drug dealer.

"I think I saw one a few streets over." Needless to say, he wasn't going to just ditch them until they were actually in competent hands. Or, maybe it did need to be said, but Eiichi sure didn't.

"Insurance?" That has him looking even more puzzled than the beta-blockers. "Why would something like that matter?"
fibrillate: (so lose your past i'm sure you'll find)

They look up and over to the person who has delivered some of the most news of Levi's life. They don't know whether they should be grateful or wail right now. To split the difference, they tuck their legs up, rest their elbows on their knees, and put their head in their hands.

"Oh my god," they mutter, and they're on the verge of laughing at how absurd it all is. "Hell has universal health care before we do." They make a strangled noise. It's not a sob.
frogmarched: (pic#15678469)

[personal profile] frogmarched 2022-07-13 05:01 am (UTC)(link)
This was... the weirdest thing to get emotional about? The sob mostly made him worry they might get more hysterical and risk cardiac arrest, but... well, at least they were sitting down? Keeping their head down would at least help the bloodflow...

"What are you getting so worked up about?" There's a breath to his voice, like a sigh of exasperation, because he really can't wrap his head around any of this. Wasn't insurance something for business holdings? He'd heard of guarantees for the hospital in Tokyo, but that was pretty much the extent of it, as far as Ikeda had told him...

"Seriously... you'll just stress your heart more." Seriously he doesn't comfort people can you get over it now "I don't know the policies in Hell, but even the hospital in the capital offered health care to someone off the street." He?? Is?? Confused??
fibrillate: (we can't can't recall the feelings)

[personal profile] fibrillate 2022-07-13 03:50 pm (UTC)(link)
They lift their head to look at him and they have an absolutely delirious smile on their face. "It's ridiculous," they say, knowing that they're overreacting but not quite knowing how to stop it. "We always called it Hell on Earth, but it turns out Hell treats its citizens better than we do. Isn't that funny?"

They laugh, and they look desperately up at him, and they don't actually seem to be crying. And since he seems to have no clue what they're talking about, they do finally deign to explain a little bit about it. "Back home, if you need health care, you're paying for everything. The ambulance ride, the emergency room stay, the room you stay in, medicine, food and water if they can get away with it. And it doesn't matter if you have insurance because they'll just deny everything and make you pay it anyway." It's unsustainable, but it has been for a while.

"That's why I get my meds on—" they pause, wondering if they should admit this, and then remember the entire conversation leading to this point. "On the grey market. The medicine is safe but it's not prescribed. If you're saying I can just walk into a hospital and not walk out in crippling debt... that would be life-changing."

cw: reference to abuse (good morning ct have fun)

[personal profile] frogmarched 2022-07-15 11:45 am (UTC)(link)
Okaaayyy, at a certain point he's getting a little worried they might become hysterical, which would definitely start exacerbating the problems. He purses his lips together, and he actually looks like he's in a tight spot, trying to figure out the best way to deal with it if it escalated.

But, Eiichi listens. And he can't... imagine it. Paying for an ambulance? It wasn't a patient's job to pay a driver. Having to pay for even basic treatment, for the room, and food? Having some sort of guarantor that the bill would get paid, only for that to fall out on them?

It puts him in a bad mood. Makes him frown, tight and critical. He'll always remember his many trips to the hospital when he was a child, battered and bleeding and sometimes even worse. Dr. Umezawa had always helped him onto the beds when he needed, cleaning up his cuts and bruises and bandaging him up without a second thought. Every time Tamamori had ended up there with a fever he'd let him rest, take a nap, bring him water and anything he needed. He wasn't sure if he'd ever billed Tamamori's grandparents-- though given his grandfather's piss poor attitude, he doubted it, or they would've heard about it when he started yelling down the street--, and he'd never made Eiichi pay a single sen, every time he'd shuffled up to their doors alone. Could he imagine, making a child's family pay something like that? Being saddled with debt just to make sure their fever wasn't something worse? Charging so much for someone's medication that they needed to resort to an unregulated pharmacy?

Maybe he's exaggerating it in his head. But even the few times he'd spent time at the capital's hospital, he'd never seen them turn someone away for money. He knew from listening to Ikeda that life-saving procedures could sadly be out of reach, and he knew the potential for exploitation was there, especially with moneylenders, but... maybe he had just hoped Ikeda and his circle had been the exception. Though he probably should've known better.

"There's always a risk with tampering in a situation like that." It's not a chastisement towards Levi themself; it's... maybe he's just... worried, even with the dark cloud now hanging over his head. But it's not like he'd had to live through that. "I've only been here for awhile, so I don't know how everything works here. A medication like that, even if it's only for emergencies, would probably still require a prescription. But we can get you what you need."

They aren't privy to the mental journey that this other person is going on and doubt they ever will be, but... but hopefully it's at least a little eye-opening. The reality that they've had to live with so far. They look again and they're calming down, finally; the smile on their face is practically embarrassed as color flows into their face again.

"There is," they say, recognizing they're not being chastised. Slowly, they start getting back to their feet, propping themself up on the nearest vertical whatever that they can touch. "But when the reward is something that important, you'd be surprised the amount of risks you're willing to take. Especially if you don't know that you'll make it out the other side okay."

They're talking big, they recognize; everything they'd just said goes pretty hard against it. But as long as they think they sound cool, then maybe they'll get away with it. "Now can you take me to the hospital?" they ask, sounding extremely cool.

To some people, they undoubtedly sounded cool; but to Eiichi, it just sounds like they were puffing a lot of bravado. Certainly, people were willing to take any kind of risk, if it was for their sake of their own life.... Even still, he can't help but feel it's a little reckless.

But, he's letting them off the hook for it, shockingly (haha), despite how particularly uncool it is to prop yourself up against a wall. He goes as far as to offer the hand still wearing a glove, lest they fall all over themself. "Yeah, yeah. Let's get you there so you can become someone else's problem. And keep you from poisoning yourself on tampered drugs."
