1. SHUTEN TERRITORY - Muscling In

In the aftermath of the curse crisis, the Shuten Clan forgave a bunch of protection payments in the region, and helped cover the costs for rebuilding. Unfortunately, some of the street gangs in the area are much less civically minded. They have used the Shuten's relaxed policies as an opportunity to turn their own screws on the local business owners. These unaffiliated youth gangs have been much rougher with the locals, and have been asking for even larger collection fees. This has pissed off the folks who are just trying to get their lives and businesses back on track!

Unfortunately, the opening of Sai no Kawara in the underground drew so much of the clan's focus and manpower, that the issues up top just slipped through the cracks. Until now! Toraguma is in a bad mood and is looking for people to take it out on: the youth gangs will do just fine.

Volunteers are being solicited to join the regular Shuten enforcers in driving these interlopers out of Shuten territory. The gangs are wise to the usual Shuten tactics, though, and they're prepared for a fight. They are also appealing to the influx of Lost Souls: they act as though they're the victims of the factions' power struggles! They propose that taking up arms against the Shuten Clan will win them favor with the other groups in the city. (It will look less good with the Shuten Clan, should you be assigned to them.)

Fight with the Shutens, or with the gangs. Either way, a fight is coming.

2. TAMAMO TERRITORY - Throat Goat (NSFW)

This prompt is overtly sexual in nature. Please use the proper NSFW labelling in your top levels and threads.

While the Palace of Sai in the underground is doing well, that doesn't mean the other businesses in the Tamamo Clan's collection have been slacking. One of the least "classy" soaplands has decided they're going to hold a contest to drive up business for themselves! They are partnering with some of the other sex clubs in the area for the sleaziest of events.

The Hyottoko Cup is looking for volunteer participants! The competition is pretty straightforward: a ruler is drawn on the throat of each participant and an array of members is presented to swallow. Whichever contestant can take the guests deepest and longest will take home the "coveted" Hyottoko Cup! Ok, there's a little judge favoritism involved too, so put on a show.

The guests have likewise been pulled in as volunteers, with instructions that they don't have to make this easy on the participants. Guests are provided with special seals that they can use for the length of the competition to enhance their natural assets. For those lacking the equipment entirely, there's a seal for that too.

3. TAMAMO TERRITORY - Strike a Poise (GEN)

Other businesses looking to jump start this month's earnings are also getting in on the spirit of competition! Businesses less oriented towards sexual service have come together as a means to draw in the high dollar clients, and one local club has proposed something old school.

Sign up for the Poise Contest, where contestants are placed into more and more ridiculous geta while tasked with serving drinks to the guest. Spills are expected, and the guests are cheerfully kitted out with cheap club-branded ponchos to protect their clothes. (Marketing, am I right?) While spills are expected, the contestant will lose points for each of the spilled drinks. Try to keep your balance as you attend to increasingly absurd drink orders. The intensity of the traditional footwear will only make your job that much harder.

Do you have what it takes to pour a champagne fountain while wearing teetering tengu geta? Prove your balance and dexterity is the best and the take home prize is some sweet cash. For Lost Souls freshly in the city, the chance to win some extra money can't really be passed up, huh…

4. SUTOKU TERRITORY - Jigokucho's Got Talent

Ever since Moonday's beloved singer – Ringo-chan – was kidnapped at the Tanabata festival, the band has had to cancel all of their scheduled gigs. Unfortunately, they were a hugely popular act, booked solid in most of the Sutoku Alliance's various nightclubs. This has left a ton of empty spots that need to be filled quickly, before the crowds get upset and demand… refunds.

That's where you come in, Lost Souls! Desperate promoters and talent bookers are literally grabbing Lost Souls off the street and begging, pleading, with them to perform a set for the night. They just need to have something to fill the space Moonday would have otherwise occupied. At least give the crowd something to see!

Acts do not need to be of the musical variety. Any performing talent is accepted, no matter how esoteric or bizarre! If it can fill out a 15-30 minute set, the club owners will be happy and the customers will at least see something interesting; even if it's a bad kind of interesting. So get on stage and show this city what you've got!

5. DEPARTMENT OF THE ENMA - Sticky Paws II: Outta the Bag

The Enma Department is busy: they have a kidnapping to investigate, a primordial god to pin down, and the crisis of their ever-shifting public image to manage. However, crime never sleeps and is always there to add to the troubled Department's workload. Worse still, we thought this little crime spree was over six months ago! But here it is again, much to the Enma's chagrin.

Cat cafés are a popular tourist attraction all across Jigokucho. About six months ago, a gang of bakeneko infiltrated several of the cafés to rob customers occupied with kitty bliss. Wallets, jewelry, and anything else those sticky paws could snatch away were being picked in droves. The cat capers are afoot once more!

Are you a hapless victim of these furry thieves, or are you helping the Department of the Enma track down these cat burglars? Unfortunately, the bakeneko are exceptionally clever and are using a seal to disguise their secondary tails. This makes them look just about like any normal cat. Better make sure your lead is good, or you'll be chasing down an ordinary Felis Catus. Soft to pet, but not going to return your pilfered cash.

Of course, the café staff might be in on this caper too… It's never easy to tell who's getting a cut of the profits. Be careful who you trust out there.

6. ALL OVER - The 100 Billion Yen Man (PLOT RELEVANT)

The local TV news has been announcing that Kaberou Kannazaki – the legendary finance wolf and the father of kidnapping victim, Ringo-chan – will be making an announcement this week. People have flocked to television sets throughout the city; at the squares, around TVs in bars, electronic stores, each other's phones, and any other venue with a connection. The kidnapping has been a highly public ordeal and the talk of the town. Many of the locals were present at the festival and witnessed the crime. They want to hear what the word is!

The public doesn't have to wait long. Wolf-eared Kaberou sits at a press desk, surrounded by microphones, and dazzled with flashbulbs. He clears his throat and, as he begins to speak, he is direct and to the point; not unlike a wolf lunging for the throat.

"As of today, I am issuing a bounty on the man known as the Iron Bear, who has claimed responsibility for the kidnapping of my daughter, Ringo Kannazaki. The payout to the party responsible for bringing me Iron Bear, dead or alive, is 100 Billion Yen. Individuals or groups, I don't care. Just bring my daughter back to me, and the money is yours."

Well! The Department of the Enma's hopes of an orderly investigation have been dashed, but this is certainly an opportunity for anyone brave enough – or, more accurately, stupid enough – to traverse the Wasteland. Maybe one of you out there will find the legendary Iron Bear and bring him to some form of justice.

Local businesses are quick to leap at this opportunity, too. They begin to aggressively push sponsorships at would-be bounty hunters. Weapons? Armor? Survival gear? All at discount prices! Each faction has their interest in collecting the massive bounty as well. They will all be putting a lot of pressure on recruits to get ready to head out to the Wastes.

If you just got here? Well, it would definitely be in your interest to start finding gear, and finding people willing to collect that bounty with you. It could mean a big step forward toward your eventual contract, after all.

[ As irritated as he is at being forcefully pushed away again, his happiness is that much more, now that Nero's here to keep him company. As they get closer to the restaurant he can already tell from the location that this is somewhere Nero would choose, and once inside, seeing all the cubicles, he can't help but snort. ]

Hah! This sure is a place only you could come up with. [ he touches one of the partitions on a table. ] What kinda lonely restaurant is this? Can you even eat here if you're with a date?

It's obviously not a date spot. Just sit, eat your food in peace and quiet and go when you're done.

[The City of Rain is so painfully closed off, rules on rules on rules, until everybody just gave up talking to each other in public altogether. Nero found it lonely there, but in a place where everybody is talking to each other all the time?

It's nice to have just one spot where you can be alone in a group.

He starts making fried chicken, fully aware that's what Bradley order always is.]

Yeah? I don't trust a thing out of your mouth, though.

[ Not that he trusts the people that told him to catch the cats either but between them and Owen, well, Owen falls short. ]

So? Do you just live here with the cats or what?

[ isn't he easy to please? and sabo will take a moment to consider... it's not like he doesn't want to get involved but... ]

It's not so much of that; it just looks like I'd be taking away some of your fun if I did.

[ He plops down on one of the chairs, leaning back and looking at the ceiling. Phew. Today has been a day. He closes his eyes to enjoy the familiar sounds and smells of Nero's cooking filling the air. ]

...If everyone knew how good your food is, they'd want to come in droves. But that's not gonna happen when you cater your restaurant to only lonely hermits who have no friends to invite in the first place.

[And it's easier to deal with to begin with anyway. The customer base is steady, and he's filling a niche.

There's a pause as he holds the chicken right above the oil.]

You can't come in here and steal my food.

[ Wow. That makes him open his eyes, annoyed. ]

I wasn't plannin' to! I'm sittin' all the way here, see!?

[ For now. ]

What have I ever done to lose your trust?

[He asks like he doesn’t know twenty reasons off the top of his head,]

I have a place, but this place has nice tea and good cakes. I don’t spend all of my time sitting around, you know.

[Eiichi's not exactly interested in helping the Enma's investigation, but he'd had his own fair share of trouble with the damn cats. He'd been able to recover his wallet, but the little dog charm Tamamori had given him was still missing, which was very annoying since it was arguably the least valuable thing he had.

But watching someone make an utter fool of themselves, while the bakaneko helped themselves to her entire life savings, was one way to de-stress from your day.

He's been idling for a bit against the wall of a nearby building, cigarette in hand and smoke in the air around him-- eventually he simply has to say something, because eventually it's going to escalate into a farce.]

Oi, ojousan! If you're gonna give them clothes of your back too, you could at least take them off to make it easier for them.

[And he knows how often his meals get pilfered, even when he's standing right next to them.]

[It's easy to tell the second she hears him. Her entire posture stiffens. Her fingers twitch, and she holds a hand up to let lightning and golden motes spark across her palm for a moment.

There's not enough power to do what she wants to do to him. Which is just as well, even worlds away she can hear her twin sister scold her about disproportionate responses to insults. Very well then, she'll put the cat she has down to stand and turn on him, get a good and proper cold look in her eyes, focus all her energy on being terrifyingly intense and majestic and--

no one's ever been intimidated by her a day in her life but maybe, today, this time, it'll work!]

Hoh? I don't take demands for free, and you're a hundred years too young to handle that kind of show, little boy.

[Seriously it's like a puffed up kitten but she is trying SO HARD.]

[Oh, those Shuten meatheads are at it again. Matoba just happens to be passing through when the brawl breaks out, and is unfortunately easy pickings as A) a human B) a non-Shuten, and C) a slender lil' beanpole. Despite these complicating factors, he picks through the crowd like an inconvenienced cat, only coming to a stop when Bradley smashes his fists into the youkai that had been charging towards him, sending him crumpling into a brick wall.]

[For a moment he just stands there and blinks at the youth with mild surprise, at least until he remembers to acknowledge his "savior".]

Hm? --Oh, yes. Terrified.

[Matoba opens his mouth to say something else, but is interrupted by the battle-roar erupting from an oni youth charging at Bradley from behind. Presumably, the buddies of the guy he just knocked out?]

[If she wanted to strike fear int he hearts of men with a cold, terrifying look in her eyes........ well Eiichi didn't really care. His own eyes contain a depth of ice and utter disinterest, as he watches her attempt to collect herself with a tilt of his head.

Meaning, he's completely unperturbed when she tries to throw it back at him. Actually, it's pretty funny.]

Don't be so full of yourself-- I don't have any interest in seeing what a dirty hag like you looks like underneath. [His cigarette is still in one hand, and he brings up the other to point to one of the cats.] I meant them. They're the ones who have eagerly accepted your charity, after all.

Your obvious lack of taste aside, even a bakeneko is still a cat, what interest would they have in any human body? I know it must be difficult for you, but use your brain.

[So, one, she is apparently completely aware they've been stealing her shit and she's??? fine??? with that? Two, she is staring at him and kind of puffing up a little.]

Don't smoke that disgusting-smelling thing on the street.

[DON'T SMOKE NEAR KITTIES!]

Haah...? I guess if you want everyone to laugh at you for getting fleeced so easily. [Did she actually know, or was she just covering up for her own stupidity? He didn't actually know, but the result was still the same.

The cigarette has made its way back up to his mouth, though he simply holds it there for a moment, quirking a suspicious eyebrow at her like he might actually listen.

...And then he takes back a long drag off the end of it, lowering his hand and blowing the cloud of smoke right in the middle of the street.]

[Tsubaki is still for a long moment. She uses that to inhale deeply, and then slowly, calmly exhale. Just a shitty kid. Just a bratty child. No use losing her cool, no use getting angry, don't take the bait, don't--

She just summoned a lightning sprite and hucked it at him like a baseball. It won't really hurt more than a bad case of static, but that's not even the point. Her throwing arm sucks but her aim is dead-on. Think fast.]

If you keep pissing me off I will steal your fucking food.

[ He says, but the truth is… he’s tired from being in this place without most of his magic. He already had his fill of violence, now all he wants is food and company. ]

[ That's as much of an agreement as he thinks he'll get. The chicken gets dunked into the oil, making a satisfying sizzle. ]

[ While Nero cooks, Bradley will look around - first with just his eyes, eventually standing up to scout the place. He looks at the menus, and the seats, and how everything is organized.

…Yeah. It’s all quintessential Nero, alright. ]

…Do you live alone?

Yeah.

[ He lived in those Tamamo starter apartments for a while, but eventually he got sick of the cramped quarters. ]

[ Ma'am pls, he's not that young,,,

He pauses to consider whether he should just outright ask the question on his mind, since—well, he found out very quickly that pretty much no one was familiar with what he was, and once that sank in, it was a really weird feeling. Absolute basic concepts that he had figured were universal weren't in...other worlds? Is that what one could call them?

Admittedly, if it turns out he assumed wrong (and he might, gods know it may turn out red and blue jade are a thing elsewhere), he's going to look really silly, but that hasn't stopped him nearly enough. Him asking this is gonna seem silly anyway. ]

Then, uhm...pardon the weird question, if I say Creation, what comes to mind?

…Hm.

[ He plays idly with a menu, bending its corners as he speaks. He won’t admit it, but he’s relieved to hear that. ]

I guess you would, huh. You also lived alone for over a hundred years back home and all.

[Just eat the candy, Lark, you'll seem less young when you're less insecure about it. But she does pause at the question--naturally, she does understand she's not in Creation, but it's still not really 'real' to her. So the way he prefaces the question is a little starling.

She does take the moment to put her earrings back on, though.]

Creation...the breadth of the living world, beset in all directions by primordial chaos, the gateway board to the power struggles of the divine, the wellspring of innumerable sorrows? That Creation?

[if it is not that creation she is saving that description for a novel.]
