1. SHUTEN TERRITORY - Muscling In

In the aftermath of the curse crisis, the Shuten Clan forgave a bunch of protection payments in the region, and helped cover the costs for rebuilding. Unfortunately, some of the street gangs in the area are much less civically minded. They have used the Shuten's relaxed policies as an opportunity to turn their own screws on the local business owners. These unaffiliated youth gangs have been much rougher with the locals, and have been asking for even larger collection fees. This has pissed off the folks who are just trying to get their lives and businesses back on track!

Unfortunately, the opening of Sai no Kawara in the underground drew so much of the clan's focus and manpower, that the issues up top just slipped through the cracks. Until now! Toraguma is in a bad mood and is looking for people to take it out on: the youth gangs will do just fine.

Volunteers are being solicited to join the regular Shuten enforcers in driving these interlopers out of Shuten territory. The gangs are wise to the usual Shuten tactics, though, and they're prepared for a fight. They are also appealing to the influx of Lost Souls: they act as though they're the victims of the factions' power struggles! They propose that taking up arms against the Shuten Clan will win them favor with the other groups in the city. (It will look less good with the Shuten Clan, should you be assigned to them.)

Fight with the Shutens, or with the gangs. Either way, a fight is coming.

2. TAMAMO TERRITORY - Throat Goat (NSFW)

While the Palace of Sai in the underground is doing well, that doesn't mean the other businesses in the Tamamo Clan's collection have been slacking. One of the least "classy" soaplands has decided they're going to hold a contest to drive up business for themselves! They are partnering with some of the other sex clubs in the area for the sleaziest of events.

The Hyottoko Cup is looking for volunteer participants! The competition is pretty straightforward: a ruler is drawn on the throat of each participant and an array of members is presented to swallow. Whichever contestant can take the guests deepest and longest will take home the "coveted" Hyottoko Cup! Ok, there's a little judge favoritism involved too, so put on a show.

The guests have likewise been pulled in as volunteers, with instructions that they don't have to make this easy on the participants. Guests are provided with special seals that they can use for the length of the competition to enhance their natural assets. For those lacking the equipment entirely, there's a seal for that too.

3. TAMAMO TERRITORY - Strike a Poise (GEN)

Other businesses looking to jump start this month's earnings are also getting in on the spirit of competition! Businesses less oriented towards sexual service have come together as a means to draw in the high dollar clients, and one local club has proposed something old school.

Sign up for the Poise Contest, where contestants are placed into more and more ridiculous geta while tasked with serving drinks to the guest. Spills are expected, and the guests are cheerfully kitted out with cheap club-branded ponchos to protect their clothes. (Marketing, am I right?) While spills are expected, the contestant will lose points for each of the spilled drinks. Try to keep your balance as you attend to increasingly absurd drink orders. The intensity of the traditional footwear will only make your job that much harder.

Do you have what it takes to pour a champagne fountain while wearing teetering tengu geta? Prove your balance and dexterity is the best and the take home prize is some sweet cash. For Lost Souls freshly in the city, the chance to win some extra money can't really be passed up, huh…

4. SUTOKU TERRITORY - Jigokucho's Got Talent

Ever since Moonday's beloved singer – Ringo-chan – was kidnapped at the Tanabata festival, the band has had to cancel all of their scheduled gigs. Unfortunately, they were a hugely popular act, booked solid in most of the Sutoku Alliance's various nightclubs. This has left a ton of empty spots that need to be filled quickly, before the crowds get upset and demand… refunds.

That's where you come in, Lost Souls! Desperate promoters and talent bookers are literally grabbing Lost Souls off the street and begging, pleading, with them to perform a set for the night. They just need to have something to fill the space Moonday would have otherwise occupied. At least give the crowd something to see!

Acts do not need to be of the musical variety. Any performing talent is accepted, no matter how esoteric or bizarre! If it can fill out a 15-30 minute set, the club owners will be happy and the customers will at least see something interesting; even if it's a bad kind of interesting. So get on stage and show this city what you've got!

5. DEPARTMENT OF THE ENMA - Sticky Paws II: Outta the Bag

The Enma Department is busy: they have a kidnapping to investigate, a primordial god to pin down, and the crisis of their ever-shifting public image to manage. However, crime never sleeps and is always there to add to the troubled Department's workload. Worse still, we thought this little crime spree was over six months ago! But here it is again, much to the Enma's chagrin.

Cat cafés are a popular tourist attraction all across Jigokucho. About six months ago, a gang of bakeneko infiltrated several of the cafés to rob customers occupied with kitty bliss. Wallets, jewelry, and anything else those sticky paws could snatch away were being picked in droves. The cat capers are afoot once more!

Are you a hapless victim of these furry thieves, or are you helping the Department of the Enma track down these cat burglars? Unfortunately, the bakeneko are exceptionally clever and are using a seal to disguise their secondary tails. This makes them look just about like any normal cat. Better make sure your lead is good, or you'll be chasing down an ordinary Felis Catus. Soft to pet, but not going to return your pilfered cash.

Of course, the café staff might be in on this caper too… It's never easy to tell who's getting a cut of the profits. Be careful who you trust out there.

6. ALL OVER - The 100 Billion Yen Man (PLOT RELEVANT)

The local TV news has been announcing that Kaberou Kannazaki – the legendary finance wolf and the father of kidnapping victim, Ringo-chan – will be making an announcement this week. People have flocked to television sets throughout the city; at the squares, around TVs in bars, electronic stores, each other's phones, and any other venue with a connection. The kidnapping has been a highly public ordeal and the talk of the town. Many of the locals were present at the festival and witnessed the crime. They want to hear what the word is!

The public doesn't have to wait long. Wolf-eared Kaberou sits at a press desk, surrounded by microphones, and dazzled with flashbulbs. He clears his throat and, as he begins to speak, he is direct and to the point; not unlike a wolf lunging for the throat.

"As of today, I am issuing a bounty on the man known as the Iron Bear, who has claimed responsibility for the kidnapping of my daughter, Ringo Kannazaki. The payout to the party responsible for bringing me Iron Bear, dead or alive, is 100 Billion Yen. Individuals or groups, I don't care. Just bring my daughter back to me, and the money is yours."

Well! The Department of the Enma's hopes of an orderly investigation have been dashed, but this is certainly an opportunity for anyone brave enough – or, more accurately, stupid enough – to traverse the Wasteland. Maybe one of you out there will find the legendary Iron Bear and bring him to some form of justice.

Local businesses are quick to leap at this opportunity, too. They begin to aggressively push sponsorships at would-be bounty hunters. Weapons? Armor? Survival gear? All at discount prices! Each faction has their interest in collecting the massive bounty as well. They will all be putting a lot of pressure on recruits to get ready to head out to the Wastes.

If you just got here? Well, it would definitely be in your interest to start finding gear, and finding people willing to collect that bounty with you. It could mean a big step forward toward your eventual contract, after all.

( now, it's not like kurumi's trying to take part in gang violence this early. frankly she's not entirely sure she wants to take part in it at all, but a deal's a deal, and she won't be going back on her word- especially not with her wish. but she really just wanted to take a walk around the city without having to look over her shoulder constantly!

pity that it's not happening this time. and unfortunately, it seems her shovel is attracting some attention... girls don't just go out armed, after all. someone sees her and assumes she's here for a fight, and doesn't listen when she says no- which is how she's wound up leading several gang members on a wild goose chase. because this is her life now.

scrambling up the wall, kurumi pauses, sticks out her tongue and vaults over properly. ...right in someone's way. whoops! )

Sorry about that! ... Given the yelling, we should proooobably get out of here.

( does she? ... well, she is the most athletic of the school living club. she's not as elegant as rii, but she's at least able to keep her balance- she's had to, to make it this far. but maybe she should have put the shovel... down. rather than strapping it to her back. especially since it isn't her shovel, just a makeshift replacement because she feels too vulnerable without it.

Lo and behold, someone just vaulted the wall the avatar is leaning on and steps away from the landing to avoid collision. Hmm, she doesn't appear to be with the gang member. Maybe she's being chased?

Though what Kurumi will see is a woman with a blank mask and visor standing with a power wheel-sized vehicle right next to her. The avatar's head tilts to the side, asking inquisitively.]

[To say Chuuya disliked having his ability snuffed out was putting it mildly, when it came to things like this. Still, he wasn't the top martial artist in the port mafia for nothing, and he'd been partnered to the biggest pain in the ass nullifier for years, so--

And frankly, Chuuya's used to this. There's always a smaller gang looking to muscle in on someone's territory, always a grab for power. It certainly doesn't help that his lack of height is getting some amused looks from the gang members he's confronting.]

I'll give you points for effort, but you're really going about it the wrong way.

[The first guy who rushes at Chuuya is getting a kick planted directly in the face, sending them flying.]

Think about the end results, yeah? All you're doing right now is causing people trouble.

[Aaaand here come the rest of them. He could probably use some backup... or the gang members might, given he just dodged a knife by grabbing the guy's arm, twisting him around before slammed his face into the wall hard enough for their nose to shatter.

He has no plans to hospitalize anyone, at least? These guys could live and learn their lessons, and all that.]

[A kidnapping, huh....? Of a very wealthy man's daughter, nonetheless. That reward is certainly tempting.

That's a lot of cash to offer for a rescue job. Is this guy just that rich, or is the job just that risky?

[ does robin look like the kind of guy that wants to get involved? no. but with one of the gang members grabbing him by the hair and keeping his hands behind his back, this pink haired boy is practically the best kind of hostage a group of youths can take. especially when a knife is being held up to his throat and getting dragged in front of chuuya, who has clearly shown that he is more than capable enough to take on these thugs in a fair fight.

[A group of four haughty gang members surround a lone teenager like impatient vultures. From a distance, they seem to have trapped him up against the window of a thrift store front. Their intimidating statures and not-so-concealed weaponry contrasts the painfully average appearance of their victim. In fact, the only thing that stands out about said victim is that he's high school age.

Anyone approaching to help may find themselves surprised, however, when the one shouting at the top of his lungs proves to be not the predators but the prey.]

Shut up! I told you, I'm not moving! I won't just stand by while you threaten people like that! If you want in, you'll have to go through me!

[Takemichi throws the first punch and even manages to nail one of the thugs right on the jaw. That's when the others start reaching for their knives.]

[Takemichi howls as he barrels down a busy street. Though he managed to catch the thieving bakeneko red handed (pawed?) through sheer luck, the agile, little bastard has proven to be a master of kitty cat parkour, and no matter how hard he huffs and puffs and sweats his way through every obstacle the thief throws at him, he simply can't keep pace.

Still, joke's on the bakeneko. Despite Michi's desperate attempts to stop the cat thief, he has a grand total of ten yen and a crumpled receipt in that shiny new wallet.]

6. the 100 billion yen man

[Takemichi is the freshest of new meats, and he really feels it as his eyes travel the length of this weapon shop's display. Not only has he never been inside a store that just straight up sells weapons as its product, he's also never been inclined to use a weapon in his fights.

Real men are supposed to fight with their fists! Up close, personal, passionate, and straightforward. To win a fight like that... It carries weight. It means something.

When he looks from blades to bats to brass knuckles, however, all he can think about is the hollow feeling that welled up in his gut as he leveled that gun at Kisaki's head.

Michi frowns. He picks up a hunting knife, promptly cuts his finger on the edge, and hastily tosses it back in its place.]

...Maybe they have some shields or something?

[Gideon does NOT have a horse in this race (yet). Hell, she's entirely content to stay out of it! But the rowdiness spills over into various places, and just as she's finishing helping someone stand a newsstand back up, she's full-bodied by some passerby punk kid, who then grabs onto her back mounted two-hander and tries (futilely) to throw her to the ground. She spins on heel and grabs the punk's wrist, then shoves him off.]

Oh-fucking-kay, I tried to stay out of your business, but you're really starting to make me want to pick a side, here!

[First of all, Gideon doesn't even know what a "soapland" is, which causes the initial problem. She gets there, looks at the bawdy ads about the contest, and... well, why the fuck not, yolo, hell yes. Of course, it's kind of hilarious as a spectator, and she's dead set against participating, but from the fringes of the crowd she gawks and giggles at what she can see.

After a while, she wanders off to see what else the Tamamo area have to offer in similar categories, but with... less guys and more gals. Why not be totally irreverent? She's in Hell! And she's going to hit on the biggest boobs in every single establishment.]

I can guarantee you're the hottest thing I've seen in the past 12 hours. Mind if I get to know you?

[Gideon has been through some shit and she reserves the right to take it easy. So find her in the park, relaxing and reclining on a bench with a large sword on the ground beside her, one hand resting against the handle. She's here from the middle of the afternoon til the late evening, and if your shadow falls over her for too long, you'll get one of two reactions.

[ Well, this is certainly a way to get tossed into the deep end. If nothing else, Ryoko appreciates that she's not being treated with baby gloves. But even though her pride wants her to insist that she could most certainly handle this herself... come on, just look at her. Even if she weren't plastered with bandages, she still has the distinct aura of a girl held together with duct tape and spite. Glass bones and paper skin and all that. She's been given a very nasty looking taser to defend herself with, at least, but even she's wise enough to know that getting into a fight by herself is about as bad as bad ideas come.

So as the patrols set out, Ryoko takes that as her cue to just sidle up to anyone else who's on their own and fall into step with them. ]

We're patrolling together. [ You'll notice that she just sort of uh announces this rather than asking for permission? ] It's more efficient than doing it one by one.

[ Ugh. She hates it when she can't just handle something herself. Does it make her look weak or unreliable that she needs to go crawling to someone for help? ]

[ You'd think that a good natured, low stakes contest like this would be a fair bit less dangerous than hunting down street gangs but unfortunately for all of us, Ryoko took one look at this whole affair and decided she was going to get A Good Grade in Geta, something normal to want and reasonable to achieve. You know how it goes.

Surprisingly, she manages quite well at first - call it a perk (or something a lot ruder) of being the daughter of a family who were very particular about her looking the part on days where traditional clothing were a must. She absolutely does not have a customer service face in the least - at the best of times, she's stonefaced and if you're one of her customers then you might hear her hissing viciously to you at some point or another as she leans over - ]

Hold your glass still.

Hubris does come back to bite her eventually, though. The bitter irony is that at least she's not holding a bottle or a drink at this point. Still, she takes quite the tumble amidst reasonable well intentioned cheers and laughs and goes down with quite the thud.

She scrambles to her feet as quick as she can - her cheeks are flushed and her eyes are glittering with both frustration and humiliation. Perhaps more concerning is the speckle of blood at her mouth - like she snagged her tooth on her lip as she landed - but Ryoko dismisses any concerns from anyone who's come to help and just sucks on it for a split second then spits the blood. GIRL, THAT'S SO UNSANITARY?? ]

Just get me another bottle.

[ It's a pretty normal day in hell, if those can be said to exist. The city's hustle and bustle. Oni just hangin'. Teenage girls chasing fleeing cats. You know, normal stuff.

Ryoko hasn't really run like this since middle school and even though her lungs feel like they're on fire, she's absolutely not letting up. She's willing to endure some measure of indignity if it means getting her wish but she draws the line at having her keys stolen by a goddamn cat.

So here she is, tearing through the city after the thing, making an absolute production of herself. Maybe the Tamamo clan will take pity on her for being so willing to put on such a show over this whole thing.

But probably not.

Either way, chances are good that she's going to collide with someone sooner or later at the speed she's going. For what it's worth, she takes the brunt of the collision like a crash test dummy going into a wall so it probably doesn't hurt anyone but her. Still, though- ]

[ He's no Shuten, but it's been a lazy month and he feels good enough to go out and bully a few demons for sport. (Nobody has ever dared say he was altruistic.)

He doesn't exactly strike an intimidating figure either, so she's in good company there; she looks like she's held together with spite and duct tape, and he looks more than a bit delicate for this line of work (he's even shorter than she is, by an entire inch). He looks more like he should be stuck behind a workshop counter than being assigned to clean up any sort of violence.

There's also you know the fact he does not look human at all but like, never mind that.

He glances over at the human when she speaks and just....kind of shrugs, as if it hardly matters. ]

I cannot argue with the logic. Two is better than one, when it comes to a frontal assault. [ He eyes the nearest knot of unruly gang members. ] And I doubt stealth will accomplish much, unless we can drag them off one by one.

[Between the Shuten faction and the local street gangs, the brawls are a mess. There are two groups having at it, trading blows whether it's with fists or with whatever object is laying about and their respective members are cheering them on and taunting the other side. How does a high school teacher (also a witch, but she's without magic, quite tragic really) slot into this scenario?

Well, you may be lucky to catch a redheaded lady shaking her finger at a poor street gangster who is sitting on his knees looking defeated and sporting a red hand mark over both cheeks. Meanwhile, the Shuten crew and the rest are standing awkwardly to the side as the lady who's wearing cracked glasses and is currently bleeding from a cut on her forehead lectures him.]

— You will not be speaking or hovering over me that way ever again, young man! I could tolerate it when you decided to resort to jeering and taunting, but grabbing me by my collar? Trying to cop a feel? Trying to use me as a shield against the opposing side?

[Both Shuten and street gang members alike glance at each other uncomfortably. This was supposed to be an adrenaline-filled battle not... Being lectured by your mom... But when Amelia barks at everyone for their attention, they all straighten up.]

Alright! We'll start this again from the top. [They all sigh in relief, grateful to get their blood pumping even with her one caveat]

Now this was more like Lady was used to. While she didn't know who this Iron Bear was, her skills made her an excellent bounty hunter. Of course back home she didn't hunt humans. Here in Hell? It was a bit of a different story. The humans in Hell weren't exactly normal and if this guy had such a huge bounty on his head for kidnapping a girl then he had to be dangerous. Either that or the girl was incredibly important. She really didn't know if it was one or the other or both.

Gathering supplies was even easier with everyone clamoring to get the bounty. She couldn't rush this, might as well let the dumber ones get taken care of while she prepared properly. She wasn't about to go out into an unknown place without being fully prepared. Rushing into a place known as the Wastes was only asking for trouble. Unlike Dante, she actually planned out most of her jobs. She did leave a bit of room for chaos to happen. Being a friend of Dante made her always plan for the unknown. He tended to have the most random things happen to him during a job.

Before he can even try to look for her the opposing group charges and both sides of the conflict are mercilessly slugging it out in the same disorganised way all of the fights have been going. But what about Nobunaga? Well, anyone paying even the slightest bit of attention during the dramatics may have noticed her doing a headcount of the gang members, as well as the volunteers, doing some quick counting on her fingers and then...apparently deciding it wasn't worth the effort and absconding with their ill gotten gains. Ignore the fighting and you can follow her easily enough...

...to where she's counting that money in a way that doesn't seem to say "yes im definitely putting this back where it belongs".]

Let's see now..it's not exactly 100 billion, but when you factor in how much easier it was to get a hold of I think you can safely say it's the most cost effective moneymaking avenue available at the moment. Everyone knows at the heart of every conflict is a profit.

Here she is, though – a few seconds too late to actually make any difference, but given that she's wheezing like a girl whose just run a one minute mile, that's not for lack of effort on her part. ]

[ To say Kojiro has no interest in petty gang wars would be the understatement of the century. He never owned anything he couldn't carry on his person, and so bothering shopkeepers for protection money, and the entire complex web of street politics that involved was as alien to him as the Alien God itself.

And yet here he is, finding himself in the middle of it. Perhaps the problem with not caring is that he never even bothered to figure out if he should avoid it.

"I hear the dango here is delicious."

"Yes, but are you sure now is a good time?"

"I cannot imagine a better time than now." So went the conversation that led to Kojiro throwing a gang member through an open door, three sticks of dango in his right hand and sword still on his back. ]

This really is quite tasty, I recommend it. [ So declares the samurai to anyone in earshot, which very much includes the group of youth gangsters and Shuten affiliates brawling on the streets outside. ]


3. Only Thing Missing Is All The Lava

[ To be a martial artist means to be in absolute control of oneself. Kojiro never learned any formal martial arts, but he did learn that. Harmony and elegance made one a master, and there were no masters like the man who would come to be known as Kojiro Sasaki.

Money is meaningless, but he would never give up the opportunity to prove himself or to sneak some booze for himself. ]

I would suggest giving up. I have, as they say, the high ground.

[ Kojiro walks out on what are effectively a pair of stilts, holding a bottle of champagne. How did he fit under the door? Truly a mystery. ]

0. Wildcard (Arrival)

Kim considers that if she were to go to Hell again, she'd ask to get dressed first.

It hadn't really been on her mind at the time, but the processing upon arrival had given her plenty of time to stew on her preparedness. By time she's turned out into the city, her jeans, pink hoodie and boat shoes feel about as appropriate as wearing a paper sack. She doesn't even have a hair elastic. This is the pettiest of her regrets.

The first order of business is to get her bearings, so she walks stiffly down the streets. Her hands are at her sides, clenched like she wants something to hold onto. She's calm enough, but her eyes are wide; this place is overwhelming, harder than she imagined. The strange non-human creatures going about their mornings, the neon-caked buildings, the loud window displays, the foot traffic swarms that make cars feel like an afterthought. She tries not to stare.

Eventually she just stops in the middle of foot traffic, neck craned so she can look up, with no thought to anyone walking behind her.


1. Muscling In

Once she's gotten her things together and her professional wardrobe sorted, it's time to get to work. She may be the last pick for an enforcer, but she's happy to set out, ponytail bouncing, to attend to whatever legal or social work there is; any faction will do if it means a contract. She didn't spend years doing document review and mailroom drudgery just to end up above it.

But Shuten does alarm her. She intends to get along, no matter how wary she is of the near-constant talk of fighting and violence, but this gameness feels immediately challenged when asked by another faction to check in with business owners, which means a lot of legwork in unfamiliar –– and unnerving –– territory.

No matter. She'll do her job.

She's in the middle of a conversation with a shopkeeper about declining to pay the new collection fees when some of the youths come in. Things sour quickly, and though one of the youths is shouting threats and insisting that the Shuten are bullies that need to be taken down a peg. Kim is tense, and though she barely raises her voice through the conversation, she argues with a great deal of tenacity for someone of her stature in the middle of a gang war.

"You need to back off right now," she orders him, a stern finger up. "This is not how you resolve things."

That's when the youth moves to put his hands on her.

5. Sticky Paws II

Kim is starting to feel professionally challenged. Her expression is frustrated under an ever-thinning veneer of patience, and it shows in the purse of her lips, the knit of her eyebrows. She is not dressed for this –– high heels and a trim pencil skirt and blouse –– and she occasionally stops to pluck at stray cat hairs on her clothes. She stands with a hand held awkwardly at her side, cat claws raked from her wrist to her elbow. The cuts are thin and long and they burn. A bead of blood bubbles midway through.

Despite the lack of success, she's not leaving without her wallet.

"I am not chasing cats around all day," she says to a staff member. "These are your animals, your business –– this is a liability for you and everyone else. If you don't get someone to rectify this immediately, I am going to be filing for an investigation with the Department of the Enma."


6. The 100 Billion Yen Man

She watches the presser on her phone from a café, the paperwork neatly stacked around her momentarily forgotten. When the news coverage goes into details about the Wasteland and the stakes for going in, her expression tightens. She looks around her; the café is full of people bent over the same presser, its fallout immediate. The atmosphere feels tense.

She waits for the coverage to settle into news anchors trying to fill airtime while reporters scramble to get more information on the ground. Tapping away at her phone, she converts the currency: over $700 million USD. She knew it was a lot, but the weight of a currency she recognizes cuts deeper. Her expression sinks.

She drops her phone on the table and starts packing up, stacking papers and stationary together and shoving them in her bag. She awkwardly catches the eye of the person at the next table, continuing to pack.

"Do you think this is legitimate?"

She's worried, but there's a thread of curiosity there too.

But it does draw him in. Not to be on one side or another, not if he doesn't know the people involved. Yet, the promise of strong people out and about, ready to pick a fight...

He can't just turn away from it completely. No wonder that he seeks out someone out patrolling the area, be it for Shuten or the gangs, to get their thoughts on the matter. Well, er. Sort of, anyway. ]

I find myself curious. Of those preparing to fight right now, who would you say is the strongest?

[ He comes to a decision later, regardless. The way he sees it, if these gangs want in on the Shuten clan's territory so bad, they must be prepared to work for it. A prize earned too easily is no prize at all!

Just because he has no allegiance to any particular clan yet, doesn't mean he sees anything wrong with stepping in a little, so long as it's on his own terms. And, well, if it makes things more fun for him, all the better. Though he sighs a bit, after he's scared off one of the more easily spooked gangs. Just because he took a few hits without flinching, really now... ]

Disappointing... How do they expect to accomplish anything at this rate?

[ So, Heart didn't volunteer for this, so much, but someone asked him to participate and here he is. How could he refuse an earnest request, after all?

Well mostly people thought he was going to spill a lot. Yet, somehow, this hasn't happened yet. At this point, the guests are definitely trying to make things harder for him, like that's the game. But even as people pull their glasses away quickly to make him spill or try to trip him, Heart seems to always react just in time. Has he really not had a single spill yet...? ]

Ha, such a curious game this is. Am I winning yet...?

[ Usually, herding cats was more the metaphorical sort of thing and tended to happen in trial-like circumstances. In his experience, anyway. Chasing actual cats was... new.

It didn't take much for Heart to actually catch one. A suspicious cat had been picked up with minimal hassle and he's currently holding it up. ]

Just what being an “entertainer” meant was somewhat nebulous to the young girl, but what she did know was she wanted to appear on stage, with or without back up, for once in her life and feel the rush of the applause of a live crowd.

Thus she took the stage with a her trademark yoyo in hand and bowed before smiling at the crowd.]

Hey everyone! I'm Bridget and tonight I'll be putting on a little show for you all. I hope you all enjoy it, I worked very hard on it.

[She then took her yoyo in one hand and began to manipulate in a manic display of loops and other tricks with a smile on her face, The whole display lasted about 15 minutes before taking a bow and leaving the stage. Off stage, she seemed very satisfied with herself.]

[Reigen Arataka, psychic extraordinaire and water cooler salesman of the year 20xx, is having a slow motion mental breakdown. In his defense, who wouldn't given the circumstances? It's not that he had never entertained the thought that he might not be destined for the Pearly Gates so much as he didn't expect to be let down (literally?) quite so suddenly. But here he is, stuck in hell and not even wearing his nicest suit.

Oh, and he somehow got roped into a talent show? Honestly, the part of his night where he signed up is a blur, lost in the panic of his apparent passing, but he must have done it because he's sitting in a greenroom. As much as he likes to think that he looks completely relaxed, he's not fooling anyone. His blank expression is comically out of place with his pale, sweaty face and the tension radiating throughout the rest of body. He's clutching his water bottle so hard it's actually crunching.

What is even happening? Is it actually happening at all? Why are these onigiri kind of amazing when he's supposed to be in hell?

Reigen nearly jumps through the ceiling when the door opens. He has to fight to regain his composure, particularly when he realises that he's staring at another performer. Contestant.

Right- this is a competition, isn't it? For some reason, that's the thought that grounds him. It's a competition, which means it's something he can win and therefore claw back some kind of control and dignity in this very undignified situation. Maybe he might even make a name for himself. Okay. Good. He can work with this. Win now, freak out later.]

[Seems like the old wolf really shelled out for broadcasting because his conference is even playing on the tiny CRT TV set up in the corner of a ramen stand usually dedicated to dramas. But while the owner doesn't do much more than click her forked tongue in sympathy, the number of zeroes at the end of the reward has a certain patron choking on his broth. One hundred billion? Either the economy in hell is in dire straits or that's a absurd amount of money and, judging from the way the screens lights up like a christmas tree of camera flashes, Reigen is guessing it's the latter.

And, for a moment, he considers it. Okay, he's only been here for five minutes, has no money, no resources and no Mob, but there are some transferable skills between paranormal consultant and hostage negotiator, right? It wouldn't be the weirdest thing he's ever...

... yeah, no.

Perhaps his neighbour isn't so easily dissuaded, though. Should they show any interest, he'll cut in, totally unbothered that Literally No One Asked.]

Despite her couldn't-care-less attitude and appearance, though, she's seen enough evidence of the street gangs being particularly rough and uncultured.

So, while she's not about to sign up for Shuten enforcer duty for real, she sure is unsheathing her sword to defend locals from becoming collateral damage.]

[With a twirl and sweep of her blade, she sends a thug easily three times her size crashing down on his butt. Eyes wide and teeth bared, she practically growls at the bully.]

Stay down!

[Ugh. She really didn't want to show her serious side so much on her first days in this place!]

This is so totally lame... why'd they all have to be such big stupid jerks?!

[Well... this is nostalgic.

Patrons of the contest might be shocked to see what looks almost like an ordinary modern day schoolgirl, if you ignore the fox features, gracefully moving about on the increasingly ridiculous geta as if she'd worn them all her life.

Now, the drink orders are more of a challenge. Single glasses with simple drinks she manages pretty effortlessly, but as it gets to weirder orders and complicated multi-glass fountains, she starts to show at least some struggle to achieve the tasks set before her.

At one point, she's so focused on getting the structure of glasses set up to pour a fountain, her tail accidentally brushes and bumps into someone behind her. But is it a patron, or another participant...?]

3 - Jigokucho's Got Talent

Hey, hey, I know, you couldn't possibly resist someone as cute as me, right? But y'know, I'm not really like, a professional when it comes to singing.

[Though she seems to be enjoying the attention, Suzuka starts by brushing off the suggestion that she should go up on stage to fill some time. But then they start to tell her it can be anything she wants, anything she can do, and her eyes narrow in curious interest.]

Really? You just need me to perform for a little while? Doesn't matter how?

[Hm... she could...]

Okay~! Leave it to me!

[And that's how Suzuka ends up performing onstage... with a dance, reminiscent of but not entirely a traditional Japanese dance. It doesn't exactly suit her schoolgirl vibe, yet the elegant moves seem to come so naturally.

When she's done, she surprisingly doesn't play to the crowd much. Just a quick "thank you~!" and flashing a v-sign, before she hurriedly rushes off the stage.

Maybe you saw the performance and wanted to give some praise? Critique? ... Or maybe during one of those moves, you noticed a distinct lack of any panty outlines through the high side slits of that short skirt?!]

[It didn't take much detective work to track down the gang of petty criminals; as opposed to the gang of large, semi-organized, and mildly scrupulous criminals that Arkou was hired by. They didn't so much leave a trail of destruction as they did one of mild irritation, fear, and the occasional broken nose, but it was enough to find the small-time crooks easily enough.

Which made the pitch they were trying to sell Arkou on sound even more pathetic than it would've otherwise.]

"We're just trying to make our own way, man," [the leader wheedles, attempting to toss an arm across Arkou's shoulder (and unsubtly shifting into position to jab her in the gut with the knife he thought he was hiding, she notes).] "Between the Shuten and the Enma and everyone else trying to squeeze us for all we're worth... there's not a lot for the little guy left, you know?"

[Arkou nods thoughtfully, as if she's giving the man's proposal some thought. Then, she says,] Miss Yukie. Window and nose shattered, family heirloom stolen, tens of thousands of yen in damages.

Mister Tano. Children threatened, cashier robbed, merchandise trashed, and now his suppliers are breathing down his neck thanks to having to go deeper into debt to keep his business afloat.

Hidari and Futaba. Literal children. You took their lunch money, and frankly speaking, I'm still trying to puzzle out why you'd even bother.

Plenty of others, too. You're right, there's no room for the little guy left anymore... but that's mostly because of you. [The leader curses, trying to fumble his knife out, but Arkou slams her elbow into his mouth. There's a crisp snap as several of his fangs break, and he slams into the alley's wall with enough force to leave cracks in the brickwork.

These are youkai, though, and they're not going down that easy. After they shake off their shock from the suddenness of Arkou's assault, the rest of the gang charges Arkou while their leader sways to his feet, growling and clutching his head. In the few moments she has before she's embroiled in a melee, Arkou rips the lid off a nearby dumpster, hefting it like a tower shield.]

Hey, you! Either give me a hand or get the hell out. This is about to get real bloody, and I don't want to worry about protecting some damn gawking bystander from these goons! [she yells over her shoulder before rushing into the fray, dumpster shield at her side.]

b. Members Only (Tamamo Territory #1, NSFW/Sexual Content but None w/Arkou)
[Arkou only showed up to the fundraiser out of morbid curiosity. She's hardly a virgin, but she's never been to an event like... this, before. (While Gerry had a hard time keeping Arkou away from his actual cases, he redirected her away from the seedier sides of Argon with the grace of a judo master, and Arkou never found the time to go out on the town since the day to do some investigation herself since he disappeared.)

She stands off to the sound, beverage in hand and eyebrow arched upward in both surprise and awe of the proficiency of the contestants. Arkou has a lot of respect for them; while she had an easy enough time suppressing her gag reflex, taking a dick down her own throat was dangerous for whoever was on the other end of it for several reasons. To her, this is an impressive display of skill.

As the MC starts hyping up one of the final "challenges" for the competitors to overcome, Arkou scrutinizes the specimen in question, looking for something... and sighing, shaking her head.]

Eh. Mine's bigger, [she mutters to herself.]

c. Every Mystery Needs a Parlor Scene (Enma Territory)
[Arkou paces back and forth, hands clasped behind her back as her eyes flit across the room. To all appearances, the staff had managed to lock all the exits while she took her time monologuing to the suspects, each of which lounged across from her, doing their damndest to act casual.

But Arkou wasn't fooled. She'd always find her man... or cat, as the case may be.]

With all of this in mind, all of you are equally suspicious, [she says, whirling around to face the three cats that could've lifted the victim's wallet. Arkou finally coming to her point may be a blessed relief for some patrons, considering that she's been monologuing about "the case" for just shy of four minutes.] But there's a single clue, a single act that betrayed the real culprit here.

While all of you were rushing to mob the mark with snuggles, a glass fell over and shattered. Not uncommon, considering the nature of this café. There's nowhere for you to go from- [Rex turns and leaps at one of the windows, only to find it locked, and frantically begins racing around the room and underfoot to find a way out.

Arkou may be a brilliant detective and a formidable fighter, but one thing she is not is graceful. When she makes a lunge for Rex, the bakeneko darts out of the way, leaving her to land flat on her face. Arkou sways to her feet, going for the cat again and again to no avail.]

Can someone- help me- catch this- STUPID cat! [she yells, face growing red with frustration. You could be a good citizen and help Arkou wrap up this case... or, considering how funny this is to watch, you could just sit back and laugh at her instead.]

[Kuya himself was really just watching, amused by the fact that others are so entertained by watching this. Were people so easily excited? And really, being able to shove a dick down your throat was an easy enough feat. Not one that Kuya has ever really mastered, because the number of dicks he finds worthy of being inside of him (in any way) are very low.

However, as Arkou's comment comes through to Kuya and he speaks to her:] Bigger?

01. Strike a Poise

[ McGillis can't claim that he's particularly surprised about the whole 'going to hell' thing - he's got plenty of people thinking he'd deserve it and he's not 100% inclined to disagree. What he is surprised about is the shape of hell - an Earth city, vibrant and dirty and loud and unpredictable. It's been a long time since he's lived in a place where the streets were bustling and smarts were required to make ends meet and get by. Is this my punishment?, he wonders with a sardonic smile, back to the roots?

And as it seems that he'll have to make do on his own before the factions decide on what to do with him, McGillis finds himself presented with the problem every other Lost Soul also shares: money.

Going from being a Brigadier General of the world's most powerful institution to being a waiter on horrid wood sandals is a pretty steep way to fall, but McGillis has always been adaptable. He's even talked the proprietor of the business he's working at into allowing him to wear a wig to 'complete the look' for this assignment. (Really, he just doesn't want his daily life appearance immediately associated with this job.)

The result is that McGillis certainly sticks out - he's a muscular man about 6'8" tall and wearing a long pink wig, the only one that was available. The geta only serve to make him more of a giant.

Are you a customer being served? He'll greet you with a thin smile. ] They will increase my heels to four inches on the next run, so choose your order wisely.

[ Or if you are another person taking the geta challenge, you might find him in the back, taking a quick break to relax his feet. ] Makes you wonder if high heels would be less uncomfortable, huh?

02. Sticky Paws II

[ McGillis has locked what little money he has made in a public station locker before coming here, so he has very little to fear from the kitty criminals - he's paid his drink upfront and is now merely sitting here, staking out the place without risk to his personal property. He seems to have made friends with a rather chubby scottish fold in the meantime, and he's lazily playing with it by allowing it to paw at his spoon that he's dangling back and forth.

But even as he seems to be the picture of bliss with his feline companion, his senses are sharp. Were you perhaps unawares for a moment as a particular cat passed you by? Did you not notice your pocket getting a little lighter? You might find yourself surprised by a tall blonde man suddenly picking up the cat and dangling it in front of you like the memetic long-cat. ]

I think this one owes you an apology.

[ The caught cat hisses loudly and is probably going to try and maul McGillis any second now. ]

03. The 100 Billion Yen Man

[ After this announcement, you can find McGillis in a weapon's shop, perusing both the guns and the daggers rather leisurely as he keeps an eye on the would-be-adventurers around him. He himself has no intention of going out into the Wastelands for a get-rich-quick-scheme but he can definitely take advantage of the reduced weapon's prices to arm himself.

But he is interested in the motivations of those around him. If someone seems amenable to making conversation, he does strike one up. ]

I have missed the beginning of this kidnapping saga, so I may be uninformed but... Word on the street is that Miss Kannazaki didn't have the best relations to her father, isn't it? It does make one wonder about the exact circumstances of her disappearance, doesn't it?

[ Julieta isn't here looking for any weapons for herself. She has access to much better options from the armory. What she does want to do is get an idea of who all might be taking the opportunity. Perhaps her presence might also serve as a deterrent to things getting out of hand should stock run low. What she doesn't expect is him and she responds before she even realizes. ]
